Barcelona part 1 - La Pedrera

La Pedrera is the idea of a madman. Or a genius. Actually, its a bit of both. For those who don't know, or have never heard of, La Pedrera, it is a Gaudi designed, architectural masterpiece located in the heart of Barcelona.

View from the street. I took this photo at 8:45 in the morning, no tourists in sight...yet

La Pedrera was built between 1905-1910, and was built as a private residence.  It was one of the first buildings that had an underground car park.

But forget about the underground! The official tour starts on the roof terrace.

 Impressive chimneys!

Impressive chimneys!

Gaudi loved organic forms....and it shows. The whole building is designed like a living organism. There are no straight lines, everything flows.

These structures are chimneys. Very, very good looking chimneys.

Most people probably associate Gaudi with his other famous building, La Sagrada Familia.

There she is...Sagrada Familia seen from the roof terrace on La Pedrera....almost finished now. Almost...

Gaudi used broken champagne bottles to make make chimneys look better. Not a bad idea, and I'm sure emptying the bottles was just as much fun:)

And that's it for the moment. I'll upload part 2 in a couple of days.
