Cruinniu na mbad 2014-black boats, red sails and a castle

Every August, the village of Kinvara hosts the cruinniu na mbad festival - the gathering of the boats. Here are some shots from this years festival:

Most of the boats are based in Connemara. Saturday sees the arrival of the boats in Kinvara.

Unloading in Kinvara. Traditionally  the boats were used to transport turf across Galway Bay

Red sails, the trademark of a Galway hooker

Black, red and blue

Let's have a look at the crews of the boats

And unfortunately, that's it from this years festival. No pictures from the final race on Sunday, because the Sunday race was cancelled due to strong winds. The organizers did a brilliant job as always, everything was very well organized, pity about the cancelled race, but those things happen. I'll definitely be back next year!
