So you need new headshots?

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing ocean rowers, musicians, play therapists, actors, IT specialists, and people from all walks of life in my studio.

In this post, I’d like to share what you can expect during a headshot session, along with a few tips on how to prepare for the shoot. Whether you need updated headshots for LinkedIn or are planning to row solo across the Atlantic and require promotional photos for your campaign, I’m here to help!

How to Prepare for Your Headshot Session at DoorusPhoto.net

Having a headshot you genuinely love is more important than ever in today's world. Whether you're updating your LinkedIn profile, creating a professional portfolio, or presenting yourself to potential clients, a high-quality headshot can make all the difference. My goal is to ensure you leave the studio with a headshot you are really happy with!

What to Expect During the Shoot

When you come in for your headshot session, we'll be shooting tethered. This means that my camera will be connected directly to my laptop, so your photos will appear on the screen immediately as we take them. Keep in mind that these images will be unedited at this stage, so they may look a bit flat or unfinished, but this is perfectly normal.

I'll guide you through the entire process, from how to stand to where to look. My job is to make you feel comfortable and confident while capturing the best possible version of you

When looking for a good headshot, it's important to ensure that you appear confident, friendly, and approachable. Practicing your poses in front of a mirror when you're alone at home can help you find the right look. (It’s also great fun!)

Make direct eye contact with the camera, and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart for a balanced and natural posture. I’ll give you practical advice on how to pose during the shoot.

What to wear?

For a business portrait, it’s important to wear professional, well-fitted clothing in solid, neutral colours such as navy, grey, or black. Avoid patterns, logos, or overly bright whites, as they can distract or reflect too much light. I always tell my customers, wear something you feel comfortable in!

Keep accessories simple and understated, avoiding large or overly bold pieces that might draw attention away from your face. Earrings, necklaces, or scarves should enhance your look subtly. Ensure your clothing is wrinkle-free and fits you properly.

The Most Important Part

In today’s world, having a professional headshot is more important than ever, as it allows you to showcase yourself to the world with confidence. For me, it is essential that every client leaves my studio with a photo they truly love.

So why not book your appointment for your headshot session now?
