The Fog

John Carpenter’s The Fog, was the first horror movie I was allowed to watch as a kid. I must have been 12 or 13 at the time, and the movie has stuck with me to this day. Not that I remember much of the actual movie, but I still remember how scared I was!

Back to the present! I have often mentioned, how much I love the landscape of North Clare, the coastline of the Burren. One of the reasons I like this area so much, is probably because this stretch of coast between Doolin and Ballyvaughan was one of the first places I visited when I arrived in Ireland 22 years ago.

To this day, going for a drive down the coast road is something I love doing on a nice evening. When I went for a drive down towards Doolin on the 22 of January this year, weather conditions we fairly good.

There was a little bit of sea fog near Blackhead lighthouse, but there were also patches of blue sky. I have an estimated 2 million photos of Blackhead lighthouse, but this one is probably my personal favourite. I love the clouds, and the fact that the Connemara coast is hidden in the sea fog

Driving further down the coast and the weather started to change. The coastline was covered in thick seafog which was backlit by the sun. It looked spectacular! And yes, it reminded me a little bit of …The Fog

I stopped at a place called Ballyreen, near Doolin, a particularly rugged stretch of Burren coastline, with dramatic cliffs and limestone terraces.

The lighting conditions were challenging, the landscape was covered in fog, which made Ballyreen look otherworldly, but the sun burning through the fog made photographing the scene difficult. But it all worked out in the end!

Heading back home I decided to take the long way back for a quick stop at Mullaghmore in the Burren. Just in case the light was good in the Burren.

What can I say, that extra stop paid off!

And here are all the images from the day, simply click on an image to see them in in full size. Thanks for stopping by here!
